This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 27, 2007:
Relationship takes understanding. Striving. Trying to be better every single day.
Relationship takes forgiveness. Heartache. Letting go.
Relationship takes LOVE. Love that knows no end. Eternity.
Relationship takes soul. Wisdom. Passion.
Relationship takes Trust. Trust. Trust.
Relationship takes Surrender to God.
---
To be in relationship means to fully commit to that other person. When they are in need, you are there to provide for them. The journey of relationship is one of the most difficult, yet most rewarding aspect of our soul. It takes something divine, something beautiful, to fully give yourself to that other person.
--
To be in relationship with the world. Takes prayer. Takes understanding. Takes listening.
Be a light so that others may see you. Be a shining star. To be in relationship means to give and to take. You provide, and you are provided for. We are all connected. We are all one. There is one God. Everything comes from God.

I love myself, for that is what God is.
Oh, by the way, that means that I love you too Grace, for you are me, and we are God.
~Namaste~
Brian.
Yes Grace, relationships are the “object models” on which God designed and implemented human life on earth. The most interesting thing about this, I think, is the existence of various kinds of relationships: filial relations, business relations, career relations, international relations… whatever.
Whatever relationships we find ourselves in, the challenge is almost always the same: “To be in relationship means to fully commit to that other person. When they are in need, you are there to provide for them.”, as you observed. But I think this applies mostly in inter-personal, romantic sort of relationships. Relationships in other departments of Life seldom follow or honour this tack however.
In business matters for example, the rule of survival can be summed up like this: “you'd better be doing things that will increase my profit or else let the relationship go to hell. I'll find more profitable business partners.”
And if it is international relations, we all know that gun-boat diplomacy and arm-twisting hypocrisy is what rules. Thus it is not uncommon to see Russian and British diplomats “warming up bilateral relations” at a State Gala this minute, only to hear the next minute that one or both sides are telling the other's Ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours or else…” well, you can complete the sentence.
In summary, I think relationships are best left open and nurtured with trust and flexibility; but should not be based on obligation. In this respect, you will discover that sometimes, it is only your “enemies” that are bold enough to tell you the truth; whereas friends and lovers lie endlessly, because they are caught in the web of duty. This, in other words, implies that relationships based on obligation may lack truth and dignity.
I conclude by subscribing fully to the Dalai Lama's counsel: “Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.”
Well dear, my love goes to you far more than my need goes for you. Enjoy your weekend.
G3 :-)
